Sham Kaushal

Good morning,

Today, I want to tell you a story — not of a superhero from the movies, but of a man who created heroes on screen, by designing the breathtaking action scenes that millions watch in awe. His name is Sham Kaushal, one of India’s most respected stunt directors and action choreographers.

But his journey did not begin with fame, success, or glamour. It began in a small village in Punjab, in a simple home, with big dreams and very limited means.

Sham Kaushal completed his Master's degree in English and once hoped to become a lecturer. Life, however, had other plans. Due to financial hardship, he had to give up his academic ambitions and work odd jobs to survive. Eventually, he moved to Mumbai — the city of dreams — with very little money in his pocket. He struggled to find work and often survived on meals that cost just one rupee.

Imagine that — one rupee per meal.

But instead of giving up, he kept going. He started working as a stuntman — a job full of risk, danger, and uncertainty. He performed daring stunts, fell down, got injured, got back up, and learned everything he could. Slowly, through dedication and discipline, he rose to become an action director — one of the best the Indian film industry has ever seen.

But life tested him again.

During a film shoot in Ladakh, he fell seriously ill and was diagnosed with stomach cancer. The pain was unbearable. There were moments when he even thought about giving up on life. But courage is not the absence of fear; it is the decision to keep fighting despite fear.

Sham Kaushal chose to fight.

He battled cancer, recovered, and returned to the industry with even greater strength and determination. Today, he has worked in more than 90 films, including some of the biggest blockbusters in Indian cinema. His sons — Vicky Kaushal and Sunny Kaushal — are proud actors today, but they proudly say their father is the real hero of their lives.

So, what does Sham Kaushal teach us?

He teaches us that your beginnings do not define your ending.

He teaches us that success is not about talent alone; it is about resilience — the ability to stand up every single time life pushes you down.

He teaches us that no hardship is powerful enough to crush a determined heart.

And most importantly, he teaches us that the world eventually rewards those who keep working quietly, sincerely, and bravely, even when no one is watching.

Dear students, whenever you feel that your dreams are too difficult, or your path too steep, remember Sham Kaushal. If a young man from a small village — with no money, no contacts, no support, and a life-threatening illness — can rise to the top of his field…

Then you too can rise.
You too can shine.
You too can overcome anything.

Your success is waiting for you. All you have to do is take the first step — and never stop walking.

Thank you.
