Heroes in the Bible:
Lazarus, Come Out!
Scripture
Jesus said unto her, I am
the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead,
yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.
Believest thou this?
John 11:25
Have you ever
wondered why God’s timing feels so different from ours? When Jesus learned that
Lazarus was sick, He didn’t rush to his side. Instead, He waited two days
before going to Bethany, where Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four
days. Why would Jesus delay when His friend was in such desperate need? Jesus’
response reminds us that God’s plans are always purposeful. “This sickness,” He
said, “is not unto death, but for the glory of God.” What situations in your life
feel delayed, but may be an opportunity for God’s glory to shine?
When Jesus arrived, Martha expressed her faith, saying, “Lord, if You had been
here, my brother would not have died.” Jesus answered her with one of the most
profound declarations in Scripture: “I am the resurrection and the life.” By
raising Lazarus, Jesus not only displayed His power over death but also
foreshadowed His own resurrection. What does this mean for you today? It means
that no situation, no loss, and no heartbreak is beyond the reach of Christ’s
life-giving power. Are you willing to trust Him to bring life to what feels
hopeless?
As Jesus called Lazarus out of the tomb, we see a beautiful picture of the
spiritual resurrection He offers to all believers. Just as Lazarus stepped into
the light, we are invited to walk in newness of life. What might Jesus be
calling you to leave behind as you step forward into His promises?
REFLECTION
Take a moment to
reflect on areas of your life that feel lifeless or stagnant. Are there places
where you need Jesus to breathe new life? Bring those concerns to Him in
prayer, asking Him to work in ways that glorify God.
Also, consider the areas where you feel “stuck in the tomb.” Is there fear,
doubt, or regret holding you back? Just as Lazarus came out bound in grave
clothes, we too must shed the things that restrict us and embrace the freedom
Christ offers. Ask God to help you walk boldly in the light of His promises
today. Trust that He is calling you out of darkness into His marvelous light.
