Neutron stars are the densest objects in the entire universe. They're so dense, in fact, that if they were even a tiny bit denser, they would collapse to become black holes. Neutrons stars are what you get after a giant star (at least 10 times the mass of the Sun) dies. The typical density of neutron stars is around 10^17 kilograms per cubic meter. A thimbleful of neutron star material would weigh more than 100 million tons on the surface of Earth. It is this incredible density that is able to compress neutrons into cube-like shapes. Neutron stars are one of the most fascinating and extreme objects in the universe, formed from the remnants of massive stars that have undergone a supernova explosion.
